Where I have and haven’t been, or, the journey continues in a new direction

My goodness, it has been a while. Almost five years since my last post, in fact. Where does the time go? In that time my family has moved twice (once across the country), and I started on a new artistic journey that is bringing me into a new period of creation in my life. As for where some of that time went, I spent a good chunk of that time suffering from debilitating depression. I am very lucky to have people in my life who wrapped around me with love and support for me, my husband, and my son. After much intervention, I am back to life. I will probably talk more about that here in the future. It continues to inspire some of my artwork.

As for the new artistic journey, I carved my very first rubber stamps in the fall of 2021 and that inspired all kinds of adventures in printmaking. I have been carving and etching and printing my butt off. In fact, one of my works is hanging in a group gallery show in San Francisco right now! Filling Time and Space is a watercolor painting and linoleum block print. You can see it in Show Stoppers, at the San Francisco Gallery at The Midway, was put on by KnK Contemporary and will be up until August 16th. You can find it on their website along with an incredible amount of exquisite and thought provoking artwork in a wide range of mediums.

I was so lucky to meet and talk with some of these incredible artists at the opening of the show last week. It is an experience I won’t soon forget!

I absolutely love printmaking. The work of carving is slow, and the process informs the result so much. I love that in relief printmaking, when you create the block, you carve out everything you don’t want to print, and still sometimes the shadow of it remains if you want it to. I bring everything that I have done before with me into my new work. My history in quilting and fiber arts so often shows in my work, and I am looking forward to incorporating more fabric and mixed-media as well.

I print everything from hand-carved rubber stamp greeting cards to original fine art linoleum and wood block prints, and I love experimenting with different papers and material. I’m jumping in here with both feet. I had my first vendor table at an open studios event in Sacramento this month, and absolutely loved it! I see more markets in my future I think, I love interacting with people at them. If you can’t find me in person, you will soon be able to find my work here too! I am working on some new listings in my shop, for anyone who might be interested in acquiring my work; stay tuned. In the meantime, you can still find my three original quilt patterns here in my shop.

I would like to send everyone who is reading this a hug. I hope you are all experiencing moments of wonder in your lives.
